"The MIT Online Science, Technology, and Engineering Community (MOSTEC) is an online education and enrichment program ... that extends from the summer into the winter as students submit their college applications. Students complete online coursework and projects in science, engineering, and technical writing during the summer Academic Phase (July – August). When the summer ends, students enter the Enrichment Phase (August – January) and continue to learn more about science and engineering, interact with college faculty and staff, and receive online mentorship from undergraduates, graduate students, and industry professionals."
MOSTEC was one of the most influential experiences I participated in that drove me to pursue an Ivy League or equivalent education. The specific work I accomplished dealt with aeronautical and astronautical engineering. I also read much of the research that was completed dealing with bio-fuels. At M.I.T. I created body rockets based on the equations we learned during the Academic Phase.
Having gone to MIT was such a unique experience that can not be quantified. The beauty of the university and Cambridge was unparalleled to any other experience. I also spent my final day at Harvard University and was able to materialize my image of the college. I had a very thrilling experience of going to Google Cambridge and learning that basics of coding. Another experience with the MOSTEC program was attending two presentations at the Broad Institute, where the famous Human Genome project was accomplished.
Here are two example documents that were the first assignments. I will not post the later assignments since they were mostly mathematical workings and answers. The goal of the work is not shown so the numbers have no value. The first document has basic introductory vocabulary definitions and a brief description of jet fuels. The second document is more interesting. The first two pages describe the negative impact of aviation on human health. The last two pages describe the resources need to grow the resources to replace jet fuel to reduce the levels of green house gas emissions.
